Meta Plans Direct Reporting of Child Safety Cases to Indian Authorities

(MENAFN) Meta announced Tuesday that it will begin submitting child safety cases directly to Indian authorities as part of efforts to address online child exploitation and related offenses, according to reports.

"Protecting children on our platforms is a priority for us, and we’re committed to working with the government to ensure that the perpetrators of these crimes are held responsible,” a Meta spokesperson said.

“To collectively strengthen our efforts to combat this harm, Meta will now report child safety matters directly to the Cybercrime portal managed by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Center,” the spokesperson added.

The move comes as Indian authorities continue efforts to strengthen accountability among digital platforms and require online intermediaries to take appropriate measures to prevent the distribution of harmful material, particularly content involving children.

The announcement also follows an investigation that examined the promotion of child sexual abuse material through paid advertising on Meta's platforms.

The investigation, published in July, found that Instagram, which is owned by Meta, had been carrying paid advertisements promoting such material in India.
