House Approves Major Funding Package for US Immigration Enforcement
The measure passed by a vote of 214 to 212, with all Democratic lawmakers voting against it. One independent member of Congress also opposed the proposal.
Having already cleared both chambers of Congress, the bill now heads to President Donald Trump for final approval and signature.
Following the vote, House Speaker Mike Johnson welcomed the legislation’s passage and sharply criticized Democratic opposition to the funding package.
"With today’s vote, House and Senate Republicans have officially ended the third Democrat government shutdown of this Congress," he said.
Johnson argued that the measure would ensure continued funding for key government operations over the next three years.
"Critical agencies and critical functions" of the federal government will be funded for the next three years, he said, adding it is "rather shocking" to Republicans that Democrats wanted none of it.
He also accused Democrats of seeking to reverse stricter immigration policies, stating: "This is good news for everybody, except Washington Democrats. They gained absolutely nothing from their reckless crusade to return our country to open borders and unfettered mass migration."
The legislation represents the second budget reconciliation measure approved by Republicans during President Trump's second term. The first, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, became law last year and extended a series of tax reductions that were a central part of Trump's economic agenda.
