Senate Democrats Seek to Block Trump “Anti-Weaponization Fund”

(MENAFN) The US Senate’s Democratic leadership has pledged to bring forward legislation this week aimed at preventing the establishment of President Donald Trump’s proposed $1.8 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund.”

Speaking on the Senate floor on Monday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said, “This week, Senate Democrats will push legislation to ban this slush fund and ensure no president can ever do this again.”

His comments followed media reports suggesting that the White House intends to maintain the fund, which was introduced last month by the Justice Department as part of a settlement resolving legal disputes filed by Trump, members of his family, and the Trump Organization concerning the release of tax records and alleged government misconduct.

Schumer rejected assurances from Trump that the initiative would not proceed, insisting that formal legislative measures are required to prevent any future revival of the proposal.

“Trump's word is nowhere near enough. Donald Trump's attempt to establish this trust fund alone is one of the most glaring cases of corruption in American history,” he said.
