Anthropic Submits Confidential IPO Registration to SEC
The filing, made on Form S-1, allows the company to move toward a public listing once the federal regulator completes its review process. Anthropic said the timing of any offering will depend on market conditions and other economic factors.
The company added that neither the number of shares to be offered nor the expected price range has been determined. The announcement was issued under Rule 135 of the Securities Act of 1933 and stressed that it does not represent an offer to sell securities or a solicitation to purchase them.
The planned IPO would mark a major milestone for Anthropic as competition intensifies among leading artificial intelligence developers seeking to expand their commercial reach and technological capabilities.
Following the announcement, Sam Altman, chief executive of OpenAI, downplayed the significance of public listings in the race to dominate the AI sector.
"I think there is a race to deliver the best technology, build the best business, but you know, going public is a financing event, and I don't think that's one that we're focused on the timing of."
Altman's remarks underscored the growing focus among AI firms on advancing technology and scaling operations as the industry continues to attract significant investor interest and global attention.
