Netanyahu Says Israeli Forces Advanced Beyond Litani River in Lebanon

(MENAFN) Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israeli troops have crossed the Litani River in southern Lebanon, marking a reported expansion beyond previously declared limits of Israel’s ground operations in the area.

Speaking during a seminar in the Jordan Valley, he said, “We attacked Beirut now, and we attacked Tyre yesterday, and our forces crossed the Litani River. We are striking them and will strike them forcefully,” according to Israeli media reports, in reference to Hezbollah.

The Litani River is Lebanon’s largest waterway, running from the Baalbek region through the Bekaa Valley before reaching southern areas of the country.

Netanyahu also claimed that Israeli forces aim to eliminate what he described as the drone threat posed by Hezbollah, framing it as a central objective of the ongoing military campaign.

The announcement comes amid continued hostilities in the region, with reports indicating ongoing exchanges between Israeli forces and Hezbollah. Hezbollah has carried out rocket and drone attacks against Israeli military targets, while Israel has continued air and ground operations in southern Lebanon.

Tensions have persisted despite a ceasefire agreement that was declared in mid-April and later extended, with both sides accusing each other of violations.

Since the escalation began in early March, the conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths and widespread displacement in Lebanon, according to figures cited in reports from official sources.
