Trump Slams Critical Media Coverage of Iran War

(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump launched a blistering attack on Tuesday against media outlets critical of his administration's handling of the ongoing war with Iran, branding their coverage an act of near-treachery and accusing journalists of actively aiding the enemy.

Trump Targets the Press on Truth Social
In a combative post on his Truth Social platform, Trump took direct aim at what he characterized as deliberately misleading war reporting. "When the fake news says that the Iranian enemy is doing well, militarily, against us, it's virtual treason in that it is such a false, and even preposterous, statement," the president wrote.

He did not stop there, escalating his rhetoric further in a follow-up: "They are aiding and abetting the enemy! All it does is give Iran false hope when none should exist. These are American cowards that are rooting against our country."

Trump also reiterated sweeping assertions about the state of the conflict, claiming U.S. forces have achieved near-total decimation of Iran's military capabilities and senior leadership, and characterizing Tehran's economy as an "economic disaster." He capped his remarks with a pointed rebuke of his domestic critics: "Only Losers, Ingrates, and Fools are able to make a case against America!"

A War That Has Reshaped the Middle East
The outburst comes against the backdrop of a conflict that has fundamentally destabilized the region. U.S. and Israeli forces launched coordinated strikes against Iran on February 28, setting off a chain reaction that drew retaliatory strikes from Tehran against Israel and U.S. Gulf allies, while also triggering the closure of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.

A ceasefire brokered through Pakistani mediation took effect on April 8, but subsequent peace talks held in Islamabad collapsed without producing a durable agreement. Trump subsequently extended the truce indefinitely as negotiations remained deadlocked.

Diplomatic Impasse Deepens
Tensions sharpened further over the weekend after Tehran formally submitted its response to Trump's proposal for a permanent end to hostilities — a response the president swiftly dismissed as "totally unacceptable."

Iranian Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf fired back, defending Tehran's position and insisting the international community has no choice but to recognize Iran's demands as outlined in its 14-point proposal. "Any other approach will be completely inconclusive; nothing but one failure after another," Qalibaf wrote, warning that there is "no alternative" but to honor the rights of the Iranian people as enshrined in Tehran's terms.

With both sides hardening their stances, prospects for a negotiated settlement appear increasingly remote — raising fears of renewed hostilities and further disruption to global energy markets.
