Far-right Influence Intensifies in Germany’s Everyday Life
In a conversation with a news agency, Romy Arnold, the project coordinator at MOBIT—an initiative in Thuringia dedicated to countering right-wing extremism—outlined her evaluation of how far-right movements are embedding themselves into ordinary life in the country.
She explained that extremist ideologies and structures are becoming increasingly evident, especially in economically fragile areas, and are broadening their reach among younger generations.
According to Arnold, degrading and neo-Nazi behaviors are now more openly observable in public spaces, legislative bodies, and local communities.
“We see that far-right patterns of thought are becoming more widespread,” she stated.
Arnold emphasized that the escalation in far-right assaults further validates this broader trend. She also remarked that the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party’s expanding electoral support is no longer confined to eastern regions but has evolved into a nationwide occurrence.
Highlighting that neo-Nazi parties continue to secure significant vote shares in municipal elections in certain districts, Arnold noted that right-wing combat sports circles, youth associations, and loosely connected extremist networks are likewise increasing.
“The far right tries to infiltrate every space where people are present. This is particularly evident in structurally weak regions,” she said.
