Trump labels meeting with Xi as path to ‘everlasting peace’
Under the agreement, China will suspend its latest rare-earth export controls, while the US will cut tariffs on Chinese imports. The deal also includes a US commitment to lower tariffs and pause investigations into Beijing’s maritime and logistics industries.
Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday: “My G2 meeting with President Xi of China was a great one for both of our countries. This meeting will lead to everlasting peace and success. God bless both China and the USA!”
Trade tensions between Washington and Beijing have simmered since Trump first imposed broad tariffs on Chinese goods. As part of the new accord, US tariffs on Chinese products will be reduced from 57% to 47%, export restrictions on some Chinese firms will be suspended, and fentanyl-related tariffs will be eased. In return, China will lift its rare-earth export restrictions for one year while evaluating longer-term policies.
Additionally, China has agreed to resume purchases of US soybeans and other agricultural goods, which were halted during recent trade disputes, though most other trade barriers remain in effect.
