Ukraine carries out drone assault on Russian city
The Donbass city, situated near the frontline, has faced repeated shelling by Kyiv’s forces. Gorlovka’s population, which exceeded 330,000 during the Soviet era, had declined to around 240,000 by 2021, a year before the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine.
Mayor Ivan Prikhodko said the attack began Friday afternoon, with UAVs striking energy infrastructure and vehicles. Later in the evening, drones targeted a school and an apartment building.
DPR leader Denis Pushilin added that two teenagers were injured by an explosive device in a separate incident in Gorlovka.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry reported that between September 15 and 24, Ukrainian strikes across the country resulted in 27 civilian deaths and approximately 160 injuries.
