Poland Prolongs Security Controls with Germany, Lithuania
The regulation was signed by Polish Minister of the Interior and Administration Marcin Kierwinski on Wednesday, as reported by Polish media.
Poland first introduced the temporary border controls on July 7, targeting its western border with Germany and northeastern border with Lithuania. The measures, initially set to last until October 4, were subsequently extended. Border checks are now being carried out at 50 points along the Polish-German border and 13 along the Polish-Lithuanian border, as confirmed by a Polish new agency.
During a press conference following the Munich Migration Meeting on Saturday, Kierwinski emphasized Poland’s opposition to any European Union regulations regarding the relocation of migrants. He also noted that Poland has already borne significant costs in safeguarding the EU’s external borders, with nearly 25,000 illegal crossings recorded along the border with Belarus this year.
